Radio personality, Charlamagne Tha God

Charlamagne revealed the termination via Twitter (@CThaGod) on Monday (November 2) morning.

Click to read.Black Review: Michael’s Movie is Gooooood
Believe the hype. This Is It dispels any doubts about Michael Jackson's creative genius.
Clearly separating him from other artists of his day, longtime collaborator and the film's director Kenny Ortega emphasizes exactly why Michael Jackson earned his "King of Pop" title. Culled from more than one hundred hours of footage, This Is It goes beyond the best of Michael Jackson's rehearsal reels. Instead, Ortega - better known now for directing the High School High Musical films than his many other achievements which include co-creating and co-directing Jackson's Dangerous and HIStory world tours, elects to highlight Michael Jackson's creative process and erases any doubt that what you saw with Michael came from anybody but him and God.
In a world of manufactured music where contemporary artists, many with big names, are unable to sing and dance simultaneously, This Is It reminds us that Michael Jackson was of a generation of cultivated and honed talent where practice did indeed make perfect. There was no resting on laurels with Michael Jackson. It wasn't just magic. It was tireless work and effort - the two attributes that aren't often applied to the genius of African-American performers so liberally.
TEYANA TAYLOR HAS CHRIS BROWN’S BACK
Teyana Taylor is still not holding her tongue.
One of a short list of Chris Brown supporters left after his violent altercation involving former girlfriend and edgy pop vixen Rihanna, Taylor explained to VIBE why her solace is unwavering.
"A lot of people were jumping on different bandwagons and I really felt like that was wack," the 18-year-old Taylor told VIBE. "Before the incident between him and Rihanna, Chris had always been my brother. When we met we clicked instantly from our fashion styles to our love of basketball to dancing to everything. I've known him for four years and I was one of the only people that stood by his side when the situation happened."

Mother, Wife and Businesswomen: How do you Balance?
Dr Boyce Watkins: Spike Lee vs. Tyler Perry - What Gives?

I woke up this morning to see that Tyler Perry is being forced to defend himself against nasty allegations coming from Spike Lee. Spike has made it clear that he doesn’t appreciate what he perceives to be “coonery” in Tyler Perry films and TV shows. When I saw Perry flat out say that the accusations “pissed him off,” I thought, “Wow, now that’s an honest brother!”
RELATED: Tyler Perry Responds To Spike Lee’s “Coonery” Criticism
I grew up on Spike Lee and I’ll always love him. I am also certain that images of black people singing, dancing and eating chicken certainly won Perry instant favor with the not-so-in-touch executives in Hollywood. But here are three reasons that Spike Lee might be wrong about Tyler Perry:
1) Tyler Perry is not all about Madea: I went onto BET a few times to talk about Hip Hop. My hoity-toity friends in academia (many of whom pride themselves on writing research papers for journals that nobody ever reads) criticized me for being “unscholarly” by talking to rappers. But my response was that hip hop culture has a dramatic influence on the young minds that I am trying to reach with education. You don’t get a baby to eat healthy by only forcing vegetables down his throat; you sprinkle sugar on the food to get the child’s attention. It’s not always a matter of forcing people to consume what they NEED – you should also be willing to let them have some of what they WANT. Every positive black movie doesn’t have to be a PBS special.

Tavis Smiley Gets Named Taken Off Building
A long-simmering disagreement between broadcaster Tavis Smiley and Texas Southern University ended Friday when the university's governing board agreed to strip Smiley's name from its communication school.
Smiley promised in 2004 to donate $1 million and to raise another $1 million for TSU. The school later created the Tavis Smiley School of Communication in his honor.
In return, Smiley made one $50,000 donation in mid-2005 and raised $250,000 from three corporate donors.
But he said Friday that he had intended to fulfill his personal $1 million pledge.
“Any institution that turns away a $1 million gift in this economy, I think ought to have good reason for doing that,” he said in a telephone interview.
He also said former university President Priscilla Slade offered to name the school for him before he pledged any money.
“I even made a joke, how much is this decision going to cost me?” he said. “She said, ‘This decision has already been made.'”
“It doesn't feel good,” he said of the board's decision. “My intentions were to help the students.”

Warren Ballentine Basically Calls Juan Williams an Uncle Tom
I have no idea why FOX News political commentator Juan Williams is defendingRush Limbaugh, perhaps the most divisive, hateful person in American media today. I'm not sure why Williams is letting FOX News use him in the same way Armstrong Williams has always trotted out to defend conservative issues. (It's hard out there for a journalist.)
However, I do know that he does not deserve to be told to "go back to the porch," as radio talk show host Warren Ballentine said during a debate about Limbaugh last week.
The comments were made by Ballentine during a discussion with Williams on the 'O'Reilly Factor' about Limbaugh being dropped from a bid to purchase the St. Louis Rams football team. Williams and Ballentine disagreed about whether the 'Barack the Magic Negro' song that Rush Limbaugh played was "racial."
BILL O'REILLY: The reason that Limbaugh is not going to be able to buy in to the NFL is because a bunch of made-up stuff became legend, and he got hammered.
WARREN BALLANTINE: Okay, we won't look at the made-up stuff. Let's look at him playing 'Barack the Magic Negro,' and we're going to say that's just funny, that's just a joke, that's not racial either. It is racial to real black people.

Richard Pryor’s Wife is Apparently Ghetto too
The media seems to be startin' somethin' when it comes to the latest news of Marlon Wayans getting the role in the Richard Pryor biopic. Mrs Pryor is a little peeved with Mike Epps.
The following quote was posted online by Richard Pryor's wife Jennifer. Apparently, Mike Epps did something to her:
"Poor B*tch ...

Ice Cube’s New Movie Turns into Marketing Garbage
This past weekend, when folks were flocking to theaters to see 'Where the Wild Things Are,' 'Law Abiding Citizen' and 'Black Dynamite,' one film that was released without much fanfare was Ice Cube's latest, 'Janky Promoters.'
No trailer, one poster and no marketing spells disaster. 'Janky' isn't even listed in this week's top 125 films.
Initially set to be released last March by the Weinstein Co., the film was dropped down to its DVD division company, Third Rail Releasing. It was released in just 22 theaters, where it grossed a dismal $5,300. It averaged $240 per theater.
'Janky' follows the shenanigans of a pair of shady concert promoters (Cube and Mike Epps), who get in over their heads when they get a shot at booking a big-name hip-hop act (Young Jeezy). Complications come in the form of a pot-growing neighborhood nemesis named Mondo and Cube's character's son (Nickelodeon star Little JJ), who is under contract with the old man.
Also starring in the film are Terry Crews, Glenn Plummer and Tamala Jones.
In a call this week to the only theater in New York City where the film is playing, the operator stated that no one had bought tickets for the first two showings.

Three People Die During a Marathon in Detroit
A half-marathoner and two other runners died during the Detroitmarathon on Sunday, organizers said.
Daniel Langdon, 36, of Laingsburg, collapsed at about 9:02 a.m. between the 11- and 12-mile markers, said Rich Harshbarger, vice president of consumer marketing for the Detroit Media Partnership.
Rick Brown, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, collapsed at 9:17 a.m., near where Langdon went down, and 26-year-old Jon Fenlon of Waterford collapsed at about 9:18 a.m., just after finishing the half-marathon in 1:53:37, Harshbarger said.
It was unclear whether Brown and Langdon were participating in the 13.1-mile half marathon or the full race.
Harshbarger told the Free Press that there were at least six medical stations on the race course and that emergency personnel were on the scene within seconds.
Every runner must sign a medical release form, and they are encouraged to talk to their doctors before they run the race, Harshbarger said.
"On a day when so many people bring such energy and challenge themselves to do their utmost, this news is very difficult to hear," said Free Press editor and publisher Paul Anger said. "Our deepest sympathies are with the families."

Your Black News: Tom Joyner Gets Great Uncles Pardoned for Murder
from TheGrio.com
Nationally syndicated radio host Tom Joyner holds up the signed pardon given to him from Samuel Glover, right, director of the South Carolina Dept. of Pardon, Probation and Parole, as Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., third from the right, smiles after a hearing Wednesday Oct. 14, 2009, in Columbia, S.C. A posthumous pardon was given to Joyners' great-uncles Thomas and Meeks Griffin, who were wrongly sent to the electric chair for the 1913 murder of a Confederate Army veteran.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Two great-uncles of syndicated radio host Tom Joyner, sent to the electric chair for the 1913 murder of a Confederate Army veteran, were unanimously pardoned Wednesday by South Carolina.
Officials believe the men are the first in the state to be posthumously pardoned in a capital murder case.
Black landowners Thomas and Meeks Griffin were executed 94 years ago after a jury convicted them of killing 73-year-old John Lewis, a wealthy white veteran living in Blackstock, a Chester County town 40 miles north of Columbia. Two other black men were also put to death for the crime.
"This won't bring them back, but this will bring closure. I hope now that they rest in peace," Joyner said. "This is a good day."
Joyner, who lives in Dallas, and his attorney made a presentation to the state parole and probation board on Wednesday, then left the room while the board voted. Family members who flew in for the hearing included his wife and sons, of Dallas, and brother and his family, from Jackson, Miss.
Though he talks to roughly 8 million listeners on the radio daily, Joyner said facing the seven board members "scared me to death." When he was told how they voted, he said he waved his hands and hugged family members in a flood of relief and joy. He also called in to his radio show.
Joyner learned about his uncles' fate two years ago during filming of the PBS documentary "African American Lives 2," which traced his lineage and 11 others' through the research of Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr.

RAVEN SYMONE TALKS ABOUT “GOOD HAIR”

Hair Apparent caught up with one of our favorite hair girls -- Raven-Symoné. Though her show 'That's So Raven' is now in syndication, one of the things that riveted us to Raven, other than her outsize talent, was the fact that her hair miraculously transformed into chic cuteness each week.
When did you get your first perm?
”When I got my first perm it was April 11 and I was around 13 years old. My first like sew-in weave, I don't remember my age but I remember what kind. It was a curly and short and it had red streaks in it. I remember saying, oh my goodness, it's so much hair on my head. It was probably like 7 ounces. And I remember taking it out the same day. Now, I don't go out without 12 ounces. I'm totally addicted. But I have to say, I'm addicted for work. When it's time for me to work, I put my weave in and I like it to look cool but when I'm by myself at home, I wear my hair natural.”

“Good Hair” Receives Some Criticism
by Alynda Wheat
Chris Rock’s documentary, Good Hair, opened Friday to mixed, but frequently positive, reviews. I’m going to take the painful stance of suggesting that’s because there aren’t a lot of black women in the film reviewing community. Good Hair is often funny, fascinating, and raises a few key ideas. What it doesn’t do is offer a cogent, relevant analysis of why black women relax their hair or wear hair extensions — which was supposed to have been the point.
Some background: Rock says he did the film because his daughter came to him one day, upset, that she didn’t have “good hair.” This apparently prompted the comedian to begin an odyssey that took him from the hair salons of New York City to a hair show in Atlanta, from Indian hair-shaving ceremonies, to the Beverly Hills salons that buy the Indian hair. But in all that conversation what you never hear are opposing viewpoints. Nearly everyone in Chris Rock’s movie seems to agree on a few critical ideas (that can happen when you limit your sample). Frankly, as a black woman, I sat through Good Hair with one dominant thought: Who are these people? Their opinions rarely represented my own, or those of anyone I know. I am but one voice in this vast, complicated community, but I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t say something. Here, a few of the ways Good Hair gets it entirely wrong.

Lebron James and his “Frenemies”
When you play for a city's two biggest professional sports teams, you'd think that there would be a sense of unity and camaraderie among athletes. That doesn't seem to be the case with Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards. According to a report from the Associated Press, after the Bengals beat down the Browns on Sunday, Edwards went clubbing at a venue where one of LeBron's good friends, Edward Givens, promotes club nights. An argument between Edwards and Givens ensued, and it ended with Givens at the hospital with a black eye and a cut.
"Braylon comes up and started saying things, degrading me," Givens told the Cleveland Plains Dealer. "He said if it wasn't for LeBron or the Four Horsemen [James' friends and business partners], I wouldn't have what I have, nor would I be able to get girls. Everyone knows Braylon has a problem with LeBron.

Roxanne Shauntay Issues a Statement about Her Fake-Ass PhD
According to EUR Web:
A rep for Shante explained that Cornell’s Web site had posted a picture of the artist and listed her name as “Dr. Shante,” when in fact, she “didn’t receive the years of education to constitute a PhD. She did not falsely promote herself as a PhD, but rather she continued what the college started in how they basically said she was a doctor.”
On Thursday, Shante sent us the following statement responding to the controversy:
I would like to thank my long time fans and supporters for your continued support. I am humbled and grateful to all of you for that.
Without going into all of the details as of right now, I would like to apologize that this story regarding my post recording career has caused such a ruckus. The entire story will be revealed at a later time.
Throughout my career and life, I have been faced with many challenges, both professionally and personally. Like all of you, I am human, and may have not made the correct decision all the time. And, like anyone else, I would like to think that my entire life or career is not judged by one error or mistake.
It is very easy to criticize someone and I have left myself open to criticism. That is fair.
There are plenty of people that will attest that I have done a lot for them. It seems though, that negativity gets more attention than positivity.
All I can say to that, is before you level any further criticism and cynicism, walk in my shoes. I am making this statement to apologize to the people that truly care about me for any angst that this situation has caused, and to thank them for their continued support. I am proud of what I have been able to do for so many others, and would like to let those persons know that I will continue to be there for them no matter what.
I am proud that during my twenty plus years as a pioneer in the Hip-Hop industry to have opened doors for those who came after me.
I will have no further statement in regards to this matter at this time
Please contact my management at Spydo Music xxx-xxx-xxxx or my publicist Belinda Foster at xxxx for any further inquiry.

Roxanne Shante

Michelle Obama Gets Criticized for Her Staff Size
In the past it's been almost a tradition for America's first ladies to catch flack from their husbands' political opponents over the size of their staffs, and Michelle Obama certainly hasn't been exempt from that. Criticism of her "massive" staff has popped up on email chains, blogs, and chat rooms. But what are the facts regarding how many people are under her employ, and how does the size of her staff compare to that of past first ladies?
On July 1st of this year, the Obama White House posted the Annual Report to Congress on White House Staff on its official blog. A minor uproar over the first lady's staff size ensued. One critic atCanadianFreePress.com accused the president's wife of employing an "unprecedented number of staffers" for someone who "doesn’t perform any official duties," while a widely circulated chain email reported that "there has never been anyone in the White House at any time that has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady’s social life." Many other critics of the Obama administration expressed similar sentiments.

Souljia Boy Arrested
Atlanta rapper DeAndre Cortez Way, better known by his stage name Soulja Boy Tell 'Em or just Soulja Boy, was charged with obstruction after running from police despite an order to stop, a police spokesman said Friday.
Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested in Georgia after allegedly running from police.
![]()
The 19-year-old singer was among a large group that had gathered at a home in Stockbridge, 20 miles south of Atlanta, said Henry County, Georgia, police Capt. Jason Bolton.
Way was arrested Wednesday night along with another man, Bolton said. Police said Way left jail Thursday after posting a $550 bond.
Bolton said officers responded to a complaint about a group of youths milling around the house, which appeared to be abandoned. When police arrived, they saw about 40 people. Half of them ran away, including Way, Bolton said.
The ones who remained told officers they were at the home to film a video. Way was arrested when he returned to the house to get his car, Bolton said. He said the house was dark inside and looked abandoned.
Dr. Boyce Watkins: What We can Learn from Eddie Griffin’s New Show
by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Syracuse University
I had a lot of fun watching the new Vh-1 show, "Going for Broke," starring comedian Eddie Griffin. Griffin is one of the funniest comics in America, the comedian that Chris Tucker could have been (if he would simply stop disappearing between Jackie Chan movies).
On the show, Griffin gives insight into his personal life, which is both intriguing and disturbing. The show is called "Going for Broke" for a reason, because Eddie just might actually get there.
Here are some reasons that Eddie Griffin might actually become the broke celebrity that he is trying to become:
1) He spends like a damn fool. One of the easiest traps for an entertainer to fall into is the "infinite money trap." That's when the person thinks that they've got an endless supply of cash, giving them ability to spend whatever they want on whatever they want. Apparently Eddie may have fallen into this trap, since his Bentley was being repossessed in an early episode of the show. Eddie's conversation with his accountant was also revealing, as the words "all the accounts are empty" seemed to strike him hard. With all the success that Eddie Griffin has had, it is difficult to imagine that he would be completely broke. But the truth is that this kind of thing happens all the time.

News: Shyne Won’t Be Shining for a Minute

It looks like Shyne's homecoming is on hold for the moment.
The former Bad Boy rapper (born Jamal Barrow) was scheduled to be released from prison Tuesday (October 6) after serving more than nine years of a 10-year sentence in connection with the 2001 Club New York shooting involving Diddy and Jennifer Lopez.
But his release is now under review, as representatives for the rapper revealed to MTV News that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize, a rep explained.

News: Remember Lisa Nicole Carson?
Finally out on DVD is the first season of 'Ally McBeal,' which ran on the FOX network from 1997 to 2002. The series starred Calista Flockhart in the title role as a young lawyer working in a fictional Boston law firm with other young lawyers whose lives and loves were eccentric, humorous and dramatic.
Among the supporting cast were Greg Germann, Jane Krakowski, Peter MacNicol,Vonda Shepard, and Lisa Nicole Carson.
Carson was a rising starlet in the mid-'90s, appearing in 'Jason's Lyric,' 'Devil in a Blue Dress' and 'Love Jones' before settling in on two highly successful television shows.
The Brooklyn native played Ally's friend and fellow defense attorney Renée Raddick from 1997 to 2002 (seasons 1–4) and made a guest appearance in the series finale. She also played Carla Reece, the on-again-off-again girlfriend of Eriq La Salle's Dr. Peter Benton, in NBC's 'ER' between 1996 and 2001.

Beyonce Knowles is finally breaking her silence aboutKanye West storming the stage at the VMAs to declare that she should have won Best Female Video instead ofTaylor Swift.
"Well, I knew his intentions, and I knew he was standing up for art; and he told me before, when they said the nominees, he's like, 'You have this award,'" Beyonce, 28, told O: The Oprah magazine editor at large Gayle King (viaMTV News) at the Billboard Awards over the weekend, when she was named Woman of the Year.
See what the stars wore to the MTV VMAs
"When they didn't call my name, he was, like, completely shocked," Knowles says. "And when he walked on the stage, I was like, 'No, no, no!' and then he spoke, and I was like, 'Oh, no, no, no!'"
Knowles -- who handed the mic over to Swift after winning Video of the Year later that night -- continues, "But in the end, it ended up being a great night, and Taylor Swift did get her moment -- and I didn't have to make an acceptance speech."

11 Reasons He Dumped Yo Ass
I was flipping through a Women's Health recently (I admit it), and I noticed an interesting poll. Women cited the following as the most common breakup reasons:
When I was little, it drove me crazy when my parents supported "no" with "because I said so." I always wanted a reason. I'm not sure if knowing why always helps, but perhaps if you know common reasons guys break up with girls, you'll at least be able to see it coming. So, here are mine:
I Got Bored: I've read many different hypotheses on attention span, but my favorite is (Wikipedia):
"Continuous attention span, or the amount of time a human can focus on an object without any lapse at all, is very brief and may be as short as 8 seconds. After this amount of time, it is likely that an individual's eyes will shift focus, or that a stray thought will briefly enter consciousness."

Why do Women Have Sex?
What makes a woman want to have sex? Is it physical attraction? Love? Loneliness? Jealousy? Boredom? Painful menstrual cramps?
Many women interviewed were having sex purely because they wanted the experience.
![]()
It turns out that woman have sex for all of these reasons and more, and that their choices are not arbitrary; there may be evolutionary explanations at work.
Psychologists Cindy Meston and David Buss, both professors at the University of Texas at Austin, decided that the topic of "why women have sex" deserved a book of its own. They've woven scientific research together with a slew of women's voices in their new collaborative work, "Why Women Have Sex," published September 29 by Times Books.
"We do bring in men occasionally by way of contrast, but we wanted to focus exclusively on women so that the complexity of women's sexualpsychology was not given the short shrift, so to speak," said Buss, a leading evolutionary psychologist.
The authors conducted a study from June 2006 to April 2009 that asked women whether they had ever had sex for one of 237 reasons, all of which had emerged in a previous study. About 1,000 women contributed their perspectives.
Watch women answer The Question »
It turns out that women's reasons for having sex range from love to pure pleasure to a sense of duty to curiosity to curing a headache. Some women just want to please their partners, and others want an ego boost.

Managing Multiple Baby's Mamas: What Does that mean?
Black News: Nike Denies Signing Michael Vick
Nike has sacked Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Michael Vick, contradicting the player's agent who said on Wednesday that the shoe giant had re-signed him. "Nike does not have a contractual relationship with Michael Vick," Nike said in a statement issued Thursday. Vick was released from prison in May after serving time for killing dogs for sport and profit.
It's understandable that Nike would be wary of resuming business with a man convicted of running an illegal dog-fighting operation that horrified the nation. Yet on Wednesday, Mike Principe, managing director of Vick's agency, BEST, apparently believing that Nike had re-signed his client, announced as much at an event hosted by SportsBusiness Journal. Without disclosing details of an arrangement, Vick's agent, Joel Segal, said, "Mike has had a great relationship with Nike and is excited to be part of the Nike team again."
But on Thursday, Nike denied that it had re-signed Vick but said it had agreed to supply "product" to him "as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike."

EBONY WANTS TO SELL
The outlook for the grand dame of black-owned publishing companies, Johnson Publishing, looks dimmer by the day.
Speculation began earlier this year that the company behind Ebony and Jet magazines was on the ropes.
Then came the news came earlier this month that the Ebony Fashion Fair traveling fashion show -- a flamboyant staple of black women's fund raising efforts since 1958 -- was being canceled for the first time in its history. Now comes a Newsweek.com article that says the company is is putting its flagship title, Ebony, up for sale.
THE DEATH PENALTY
In theory, the death penalty for capital crimes should work.
An accused killer takes the life of an innocent and is put to death to protect the rest of society.
The only problem is that theory has little to do with real life.
Prejudicial prosecution; coerced confessions; corrupted informants; botched lawyering; and, yes, even racism, have turned the death penalty, as it is now applied in the United States, into a very dirty, inaccurate business.
Let's cross our fingers and pray that with a little luck, a death knell for the death penalty will soon be sounded, especially in light of the sad case of Romell Broom, who would have been executed in Ohio's death chamber on Sept. 15 but for his weak veins.

Nicole Spence: She Stuck Her Finger in My Booty!
Hey guys,
I know I'm late but Let's get busy( in my Aresenio Hall voice! Lol),
I have an interesting Dear Nicole letter read below:
the other night while getting some head from my girl she tried something new and stuck a finger in my azz and i nutted like i never before and it felt really good but i don't want her to think I'm gay or something how do i tell her i really liked that shit damm why did it feel so good? i need to know because if felt so fucking good but i'm no fag is that acceptable? thanks
Wow!! My first reaction is that you're not gay! But Let's be clear if a man that I'm seeing asked me to put a finger in his booty, I would immediately think his ass was gay!!
I mean that's just a hell of a request!
But you didn't ask for it, your girlfriend just tried something new and it turns out you dig it! It's actually kinda cool, that you guys are delving into uncharted territory like that. Sounds freaky but she is teaching you about your body. So that's cool! And I don't think you have to tell her how much you liked it, I'm sure she can tell by your reaction! Shooot if she likes to "Rep her city" as much as I do, she'll be doing that shit again and again for that same explosive reaction! Congrats!!
FIRST LADY ALWAYS LOOKING GOOD
I feel the same way about Amber Rose that I do about Michelle Obama: they can do no wrong. (And I know I am also dead wrong for mentioning both names in the same sentence, but alas....)
In my latest edition of What Michelle Wore, we will focus on her knee-length, floral-print Thakoon ensemble she wore in Pittsburgh at the G-20 Summit.
While others were focused on the important political speeches, I was gazing at what Mrs. Obama and her sister in chic, French first lady Carla Bruni, put on for this photo opp. Who looks better?Personally, I am all about Bruni's chic, form fitting black dress. But Michelle's fun, floral print dress steals the day. I think she could definitely have lost the pearls for this particular look though and I am I the only one that isn't in love with the shoes?
JAY-Z ON OPRAH
Here you go again, smelling good," Winfrey joked as Jay-Z walked on the set. The line was in reference to her call with Gayle King where she remarked after meeting the rapper she discovered how good he smelled.
"That's swagger," an audience member chimed in, drawing Jay's laughter.
The pair appeared at ease with each other as the talk-show queen asked the rapper about his drug-dealing past, his marriage to Beyoncé and his relationship with his father, whom Jay-Z had been estranged from before reuniting with him before his death.
They agreed to disagree over issues with the N-word. Jay-Z said people give words power, and as a culture, we can take that away. Winfrey steadfastly disagreed, saying for her generation, the word is loaded with degradation.

WTF? Tyson Would Sleep with Obama?
"I don't actually go that way, though I notice a lot of people think I do. But umm, you know what, if Imma do it, I'm going for [Barack] Obama. If I got with him, I could run the country. If I was that way, Obama, I'd be gunning for you brother! I'd be the one in control. That's if I was that way. Who you gonna go for? Will Smith? Somebody pretty like that? Not to say Obama's not pretty. But I'd go straight for Obama because you got power then. You could run red lights and just wild out. And I'd have Michelle [Obama]hold the camera!"

Dr Boyce Watkins: What’s Wrong with Ebony Magazine?
by Dr. Boyce Watkins, MSNBC’s TheGrio.com
The black journalism students here at Syracuse often come to me to find out how the industry works. They sometimes instinctively wonder if their professors' stories about being in a CBS newsroom in 1982 are going to help them survive in a world run by Twitter, Myspace and Facebook. The answer is a resounding "probably not."
While respecting the journalism professors teaching their classes, I simply use examples like Ebony Magazine to help them realize that black media is changing, and sites like theGrio.com, BlackVoices.com, and TheRoot.com, are examples of how black media has evolved. In fact, a journalist who doesn't understand technology and business models is in danger of starting his/her career as a dinosaur.
When it comes to recent reports about Ebony Magazine being offered for sale, I admit that I was saddened, but not surprised. The Ebony Fashion Fair has become one of the most celebrated events in black America, and the magazine has been nothing less than a tremendous source of national pride since its creation in 1945. But in the age of the web, oversized bureaucracies can be crushed under the weight of their own arrogance. Bloated payrolls, pompous corporate functions and a sense of entitlement make them easy prey for quick, hungry and rapidly evolving competition.
In spite of the tremendous love we have for Ebony/Jet, the truth must be confronted when realizing that it is what radio was to TV or what the train was to the airplane. Like radios and trains, there is still a place for print media, but that role is no longer dominant. The current economic climate only accelerated the inevitable, since advertisers were eventually going to stop spending $50,000 for magazine ads when they can buy the same number of eyeballs for $5,000 or less.
I present the following 5 questions I'd like to ask out loud about both Ebony Magazine and the state of African American media:
Celebs Endorse Dangerous Drug
from TheGrio.com
You see it all over television, celebrities endorsing "syrup," which is a combination of cough syrup with codeine and soda, two ingredients that can make for a lethal recipe.
Stores in Southeast Texas are now carrying the products that bear the names "drank" and "syrup", but with a different twist.
Drank and Sippin Syrup are two examples of a new anti-energy drink that is supposed to provide "extreme relaxation." There is nothing harmful in these products, in fact one of the main ingredients is Melatonin, a natural substance that helps you sleep.
18-year-old Jackie Robinson says he just started drinking this anti-energy drink because of the slogan, "sippin syrup."
"I ain't gonna lie it really do," said Robinson Wednesday afternoon as he sipped his drink outside a Beaumont convenient store. "It probably attracts a lot of people from the name too."

Hollywood Director Arrested for Drugging and Raping a 13-year Old Girl
Filmmaker Roman Polanski has been arrested on an arrest warrant stemming from a decades-old sex charge, Swiss police said Sunday.
Roman Polanski attends a film premiere in Paris, France, in June 2009.
![]()
The Academy Award-winning director pleaded guilty in 1977 to a single count of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, acknowledging he had sex with a 13-year-old girl, but fled the United States before he could be sentenced. U.S. authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in 1978.
He was taken into custody trying to enter Switzerland on Saturday, Zurich police said.
Polanski, 76, has lived in France for decades to avoid being arrested if he enters the U.S. He declined to collect his Academy Award for Best Director in person when he won it for "The Pianist" in 2003.
He was en route to the Zurich Film Festival, which is holding a tribute to him, when he was arrested by Swiss authorities, the festival said.
Polanski was nominated for best director Oscars for "Tess" and "Chinatown," and for best writing for "Rosemary's Baby," which he also directed.
"Roman Polanski, who is one of the greatest film directors of all time, would have been honored for his life's work in Zurich today," the film festival said in a statement.

Earlier this month, clips of a taped television interview that gospel music sensation Tonex conducted for 'The Lexi Show' (on the Gospel network) surfaced on the Internet and caused a heated frenzy within the black religious industry. During the revealing conversation, the internationally renowned music superstar (nee Anthony Williams III) talked candidly about his homosexuality, his failed marriage and his thoughts on the black church. As expected, when someone touches upon such a taboo subject, it strikes a chord among others. But as the multiple Stellar Award-winning virtuoso tells it, in his very own words, it was a lot more than he ever bargained for. Below is Tonex's exclusive testimony to BlackVoices.com:

So a good friend of mine recently started digging in the crates, and began messing with an old flame!

He's about 8years older than her, so she was looking forward to the whole " daddy" experience. Unfortunately things "down south" haven't been quite the way she remembers, while talking over Patron shots, she asked me if she should give him the ol Heave hoe!
Here's the skinny!
Dr Boyce: Did BET Step Over the Line with “Skank Robbers”?
by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Your Black World
During the BET Awards, Martin Lawrence and Jamie Foxx did a skit called "Skank Robbers," which you can watch below. Some have argued that the video goes over the top, producing stereotypical images of black women to the point of being offensive. Referring to them as "skanks" was enough to draw the ire of many African Americans, but there was also a point in the video in which the narrator says, "From the producers of 'Planet of the Apes'."
This video leads to the following questions as it pertains to BET:1) Who's making the decisions? I'd love to see what thought process goes into deciding to make R. Kelly your keynote performer right after he is accused of creating child pornography, or having Lil Wayne sing about wanting to have sex with every girl in the world while underage girls are dancing on stage. I don't hate BET, and I've done a great deal of work with them in the past, but I would like very much for them to explain to the public exactly how they operate.

So I was on the way to school talking on the phone with one of my girlfriends. I brought up a previous conversation that I had with my friend Jack. Just recently Jack invited me to go with him to check out this Sex club in Brooklyn. Jack knows damn well that I won’t be partaking in any of the reckless behavior, but we both figured it would be juicy material for me to write about, if I wasn’t such a damn fraidy cat, and I actually had the balls to enter such a place.
The crazy shit is nasty people are everywhere, as I’m walking and chit chatting to my surprise this clean cut black guy over hears my conversation. As I attempt to cross the street he stops me. Now I’m thinking “ Oh you want my number?” But No! He tells me “ I didn’t mean to over hear your conversation, but I did. My girlfriend and I are looking for a new Sex club, can you tell me the name of the one you were just speaking about?” Get the fuck outta here! You swing? He begins to ask if I’m apart of the “community” I say, "No" followed by a very loud weird laugh. Lol

Mayweather: He’s Still the Man
Money came back with a guarantee. Floyd Mayweather Jr. told the world he was still its best boxer despite taking 21 months off, and he backed up every boast with every jab in an impressive victory.
Although next time out, hopefully he’ll pick on somebody his own size.
Mayweather overpowered the smaller, lighter Juan Manuel Marquez for an unanimous decision Saturday night, maintaining his perfect record in his comeback from retirement.
Mayweather knocked down Marquez in the second round and then peppered him with countless damaging shots to remain unbeaten (40-0, 25 KOs). Still, his impressive effort couldn’t be viewed without weighing the obvious disadvantages in height and strength faced by the talented Marquez, a 130-pounder just 18 months ago who moved up two weight classes for this once-in-a-career payday at the MGM Grand Garden.

Well-Known Publicist Gives PR Advice to Kanye West and Serena Williams
Karen Taylor-Bass, a well-known publicist, decided to go out of her way to give some PR advice on how Serena and Kanye can save their damaged public images. Read what she had to say:
Kanye West Latest Ego Trip
“Last night, I was watching the VMA with my 9 year old son, as he was packing his books for school. As I was explaining to him the significance of the MTV Awards, as a former Music Publicist, the mood shifted from this is cool to ... this is crazy.
I was shocked by Kanye West's latest ego tripping antics. Lets be real, that moment with Taylor Swift versus Beyonce, was all about Kanye getting some "shine" aka spotlight. Countless times we excuse Kanye for his childish, ego- "me" moments, however, this time his friends should really answer and heed Madonna's call during her tribute to Michael Jackson. Perhaps, Kanye needs a reality check and someone to talk to? Maybe, its a cry for help? What I do know is that it's not okay to take to social media an issue an apology time and time again ... you were man enough to take the mic from Taylor Swift, be man enough to publicly apologize.
Kanye you need to take a time-out, and re-brand your image.. We want to believe in your brilliance, but not like this. “

Serena Williams' Costly Moment
“Serena Williams allowed poor judgment to take center stage on Saturday at the United States Open which possibly cost her the title, endorsements, fans, and most importantly, a damaged BRAND . The angry black woman as a brand is not palatable for mainstream media. Upon seeing the tape, I must say Serena Williams got real 'hood' with the line judge and her behavior was out of pocket.
Athletes, especially Black athletes, must remember this is a business and your brand is your business. If you are known for grace, dignity, and being a champion, well display that at all times. John McEnroe got away with many antics during his reign, however, with the advent of technology -- every emotion, word and behavior is captured for the world to see. And sadly, Black athletes are judged by a different standard. All is not lost as it relates to damage control -- issue a mea culpa immediately to the officials, fans, Kim Clijsters, etc., and show the world all champions are human with flaws with moments.”

Tyler Perry Gets Blasted in New Tell-All Book
A new tell all book has emerged and it’s about Tyler Perry and his many rumored relations with females in the industry including Tyra Banks and Oprah. Pop the hood for the details.
A book entitled Tyler, an acronym for T.he one Y.ou L.east E.xpected R.evealed: Uncensored Tell All Book about the REAL man behind the make-up and dress, alleges that the Tyler Perry you see isn’t the Tyler Perry you get. The author is really trying to throw Tyler under the bus and even has audio of him going off about some “undisclosed” female who is feeling him too much saying “the b*tch is crazy.”

Michael Baisden Gets Real Serious about Healthcare Reform
Although many Americans have seen and heard the insane debate over healthcare, almost no one understands what's going on. This is doubly true for the African American community, who is affected greatly by this debate and its outcomes. What? DMX Has no respect for Jay Z?
"DMX says "I f*cks with him and had respect for him -- until he became the president of Def Jam and I ain't gonna say too much more about it, but you know what it is. There's a difference between doing wrong and being wrong. There's a difference between doing wrong and 'being' wrong, at one point you were 'being' wrong. N*ggas can't do it like we could, n*ggas couldn't do it like we could. N*ggas weren't able to -- we're artists. Jay is a talented motherf*cker. Don't misunderstand me. He is talented but he has no heart behind it. There's no soul behind it. It's motivated by money...But I still maintain the respect, because our birthday is in the same month and you know, we have history. But I lost it when he became president of Def Jam, that's why I left Def Jam.”

Barack Obama Calls Kanye West a Jackass
Are you serious? Newsweek and other media outlets are reporting that during an off the record remark to an ABC reporter, Obama called Kanye West a Jackass for his attacks on Taylor Swift.
Well, was he lying? I think the world is getting tired of Kanye West.
