Aretha Franklin Gets Angry with Beyonce

Beyonce and Aretha Franklin apparently don't see eye-to-eye over the use of the word "queen". During the Grammys, Aretha got a little unnerved over the fact that Beyonce introduced Tina Turner as "the queen".

Aretha, known as the Queen of Soul, apparently felt that the use of the word to describe Tina Turner was a slap in her face.

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

Beyonce's father, Matthew Knowles, told CelebTV that the whole situation was ridiculous. "I am not taking something this ridiculous to Beyonce. Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a 'queen.' Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?"

Neither side is responding to media requests for comment.

Aretha certainly deserves respect. She is one of our greatest vocalist ever and her career history has actually been oscured. I can understand her sensitivity however, I don' think that Beyonce meant her any disrespect. Mr. Knowles raises a good point. I am sure that he comes into contact with the diva spirit frequently in his business. Aretha is known for her diva attitude as well. She was raised as an actual African American princess and the apple of her father's (a very powerful man)eye. She came about it naturally. Beyonce did list a string of vocalists, including Aretha, crediting them for a special quality, and ended by saying but one one woman embodies all of the qualities that she listed -- the queen, Ms. Tina Turner. Who ever wrote the script made a bit blunder and should have been more conscious that this might appear to be a dis. It would not take much for Beyonce to give a general apology for any thing that she said that could have hurt Ms. Aretha's feelings, whether she intended to or not. We have to lift each other up. We also deserve RESPECT.
