Hip-hop artist and founder of the Stop the Violence Movement, KRS-One, spoke with about 150 youth, area leaders and community members at The Urban League of Flint today.
"We are addressing these shootings. What's up with Flint?" said Lawrence Krishna Parker, who goes by the moniker KRS-One. "Flint, do you realize, you could start a movement of peace and influence Detroit?"
He told audience members that the main causes of violence are illiteracy and poverty, stressing that knowledge and skill are the evenues to increase finances and avoid violence.
"Illiteracy causes violence," KRS-One said. "If you don't have enough words in your vocabulary, you can't even seek your way out of a situation."
