Eddie Murphy May Return to SNL and Bring Theater Movies to Your Home

The recent buzz about Eddie Murphy hosting the Oscars this year has really put a boost into his previously sagging career.  First, the legendary actor has been rumored to host Saturday Night Live again for the first time since leaving the show in 1984.  He hasn't returned for nearly 30 years after allegedly getting into a feud with SNL creator Lorne Michaels.

Murphy may do the appearance as early as this weekend to promote his new film, "Tower Heist" with Ben Stiller.

The feud with Michaels reportedly began when SNL actor David Spade made a joke about Murphy in 1989 when he released Harlem Nights.  At the time, Murphy's career was in a slight slump, and Spade put up a picture of Murphy on screen, saying, "Look children, a falling star....Quick, make a wish!"

Murphy complained to Michaels about the joke and demanded an apology, but Michaels didn't budge, citing creative freedom for his writers.  Since that time, Murphy has refused to appear in any SNL reunions or specials.

Since Spade's joke, things have definitely changed.  While Murphy's long career has had many bumps in the road, he is now a significant staple on the Hollywood scene.  Also, NBC has recently announced that they are going to use Murphy's new film to test a service which allows customers to watch films in their homes while the movie is still in theaters.

The test is only going to take place in select cities, but if it is successful, it could change how movies are viewed forever.  It looks like Eddie is continue to "do big thangs."

I can't remember the last time I watched SNL and I have no reason to watch it for Murphy. Murphy was funny but IMO on SNL he came off as nothing more than a black minstrel. Someone that would do anything for his white handlers. That's probably the reason why he and many other black comedians that followed were so successful in a racist industry.
