Well-Known Publicist Gives PR Advice to Kanye West and Serena Williams

image

Karen Taylor-Bass, a well-known publicist, decided to go out of her way to give some PR advice on how Serena and Kanye can save their damaged public images.  Read what she had to say:

Kanye West Latest Ego Trip

“Last night, I was watching the VMA with my 9 year old son, as he was packing his books for school.  As I was explaining to him the significance of the MTV Awards, as a former Music Publicist, the mood shifted from this is cool to ... this is crazy.

I was shocked by Kanye West's latest ego tripping antics. Lets be real, that moment  with Taylor Swift versus Beyonce, was all about Kanye getting some "shine" aka spotlight.   Countless times we excuse Kanye for his childish, ego- "me" moments, however, this time his friends should really answer and heed Madonna's call during her  tribute to Michael Jackson. Perhaps, Kanye needs a reality check and someone to talk to? Maybe, its a cry for help? What I do know is that  it's not okay to take to social media an issue an apology time and time again ... you were man enough to take the mic from Taylor Swift, be man enough to publicly apologize.

Kanye you need to take a time-out, and re-brand your image.. We want to believe in your brilliance, but not like this. “

Serena Williams' Costly Moment

“Serena Williams allowed poor judgment to take center stage on Saturday at the United States Open which possibly cost her the title, endorsements, fans, and most importantly, a damaged BRAND . The angry black woman as a brand is not palatable for mainstream media. Upon seeing the tape, I must say Serena Williams got real 'hood' with the line judge and her behavior was out of pocket.

Athletes, especially Black athletes, must remember this is a business and your brand is your business. If you are known for grace, dignity, and being a champion, well display that at all times. John McEnroe got away with many antics during his reign, however, with the advent of technology -- every emotion, word and behavior is captured for the world to see. And sadly, Black athletes are judged by a different standard. All is not lost as it relates to damage control -- issue a mea culpa immediately to the officials, fans, Kim Clijsters, etc.,  and show the world all  champions are human with flaws with moments.”

Serena Talks about Body Shape Issues

As tennis phenoms Venus and Serena Williams prepare for this year's U.S. Open, which starts Aug. 31, a candid interview Serena recently gave to People magazine is drawing plenty of attention. The younger Williams sister discussed her new memoir, 'On the Line,' which touches on fashion, love, body image, and her bout with depression after the murder of her half-sister, Yetunde Price, in 2003.
What she went through after losing Price is the heart of 'On The Line':

It was a real dark period in my life. I went through depression. I never even talked about it to my mom. No one knew I was in therapy, but I was. I was so close to her.

Serena and Venus Williams Considering Buying a Share of Miami Dolphins

Serena Williams and her sister Venus are in preliminary talks to become part-owners of the NFL's Miami Dolphins, the 11-time grand slam winner confirmed on Wednesday.

"There have been preliminary talks and hopefully it will work out," Serena Williams told reporters after her second round win over Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova at the Toronto Cup. "That would be a great opportunity for both of us.

"We'll see what happens, you never know."

If they did acquire a stake in the Dolphins, the Williams sisters would join musicians Jimmy Buffet and Gloria and Emilio Estefan, who became minority partners in the team earlier this year.

Buffett, owner of Margaritaville Enterprises, signed a deal in May, which includes the team's stadium being renamed after his LandShark Lager beer for the 2009 season.

The Williams, who live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, are not described as big NFL fans but view the Dolphins as a vehicle to promote themselves.

"Venus and I are always trying to expand our brand," said Williams. "If the opportunity presents itself we would love to see where it can take us.

"Hopefully we'll be able to expand our brand."

Serena Williams Settles Book Deal

Serena Williams was in recent negotiations for her memoir. Well, Ms. Williams will be writing about her life on and off the court with the book being published by Grand Central Publishing. The exact amount of the final deal was not released, but bidding reached at least $1.3 million according to the Associated Press.

"Serena Williams is one of the world's most remarkable athletes," Grand Central editor Karen Kosztolnyik said Tuesday in a statement. "We've watched her rise to No. 1 despite physical and emotional setbacks, and her hard work and determination have inspired legions of fans young and old. Serena will give her memoir a strong motivational slant."

Definitely good to see Serena continuing to represent on and off the court!!
