RHoA Cast Set to Return
Season 4 of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" will return with all 6 castmembers. Season 4 should bring a lot of interesting twists, turns, & drama for Sheree Whitfield, Phaedra Parks, Kandi Burruss, NeNe Leakes, Kim Zolciak, and Cynthia Bailey.

Dr Boyce Watkins: What’s Wrong with Ebony Magazine?

The black journalism students here at Syracuse often come to me to find out how the industry works. They sometimes instinctively wonder if their professors' stories about being in a CBS newsroom in 1982 are going to help them survive in a world run by Twitter, Myspace and Facebook. The answer is a resounding "probably not."
While respecting the journalism professors teaching their classes, I simply use examples like Ebony Magazine to help them realize that black media is changing, and sites like theGrio.com, BlackVoices.com, and TheRoot.com, are examples of how black media has evolved. In fact, a journalist who doesn't understand technology and business models is in danger of starting his/her career as a dinosaur.
When it comes to recent reports about Ebony Magazine being offered for sale, I admit that I was saddened, but not surprised. The Ebony Fashion Fair has become one of the most celebrated events in black America, and the magazine has been nothing less than a tremendous source of national pride since its creation in 1945. But in the age of the web, oversized bureaucracies can be crushed under the weight of their own arrogance. Bloated payrolls, pompous corporate functions and a sense of entitlement make them easy prey for quick, hungry and rapidly evolving competition.
In spite of the tremendous love we have for Ebony/Jet, the truth must be confronted when realizing that it is what radio was to TV or what the train was to the airplane. Like radios and trains, there is still a place for print media, but that role is no longer dominant. The current economic climate only accelerated the inevitable, since advertisers were eventually going to stop spending $50,000 for magazine ads when they can buy the same number of eyeballs for $5,000 or less.

50 Cent's "The Streets Of Blood" Interview
Curtis James Jackson, III, aka 50 Cent was born on July 6, 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens, where he was raised by his single-mom until she was murdered when he was only 8. He was taken in by his grandparents, but began hanging out with the wrong kids and began selling crack by the age of 12. While still a teenager, he was arrested and convicted for drug dealing, and turned his life around while serving out a six-month sentence.
After being paroled, he parlayed his street cred into an enviable career in gangsta’ rap with the help of the late Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC, and the rest, as they say, is musical history. Here, he talks about his latest film, Streets of Blood, a crime thriller set in New Orleans and co-starring Val Kilmer.
Gabrielle Union's New Gig On Small Screen
Actress Gabrielle Union is making another go for the small screen. Union is joining the cast of ABC's new drama "FlashForward" set to debut on September 24 at 8:00 P.M., according to Variety.com. Union plays criminal defense attorney, Zoey, who along with the other main characters gets a glimpse into her future and has a choice of either changing what she sees or living her life to the fullest. "FlashForward" also stars Courtney B. Vance.-WLW
Jennifer Hudson's 'Winged Creatures' Rechristened 'Fragments'
After winning Oscars in 2006 for their roles in 'The Last King of Scotland' and 'Dreamgirls,' respectively, Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson worked together on a film called 'Winged Creatures.'
With a cast that includes Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Jackie Earle Haley, Josh Hutcherson, Embeth Davidtz, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Robin Weigert, the movie seemed, at the the very least, promising. Not quite.
It was shelved for three years while producers tried to find a distribution company. Now, with its new title, 'Fragments,' this Rowan Woods-directed film will be released in a limited number of theaters on July 31, with a DVD release date set for Aug. 4.

Mary J. Blige's Video For Lebron James Film
Lionsgate has released the music video for Mary J. Blige's newest single, 'Stronger.' The video features the talented players from 'More Than a Game,' a remarkable true-life coming-of-age story about friendship and loyalty in the face of adversity.
Five young basketball players from Akron, Ohio, who are coached by a charismatic but inexperienced father and led by future NBA superstar LeBron James, embark on an improbable seven-year journey that leads them from a decrepit inner-city gym to the doorstep of a national high school championship.
Along the way, the close-knit team is repeatedly tested on and off the court, as James' exploding worldwide celebrity threatens to destroy everything they've set out to achieve together.

Tyler Perry's "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" Movie Trailer
Here's the trailer for Tyler Perry's next movie "I Can Do Bad All By Myself". The release date is Sept. 11, 2009. Looks like it will be a good one!! I'm thinking the soundtrack may be good as well.
The movie synopsis, by Cinematical, is:
Three delinquent children loot the home of the lovable-but-firm Madea (Perry), and she takes matters into her own hands. She delivers them into the care of their only relative, the hard-drinking, nightclub-singing April, played by Academy Award-nominated Taraji P. Henson. Aunt April sponges off her married boyfriend and wants nothing to do with the kids, but things start to change when a good-looking Mexican immigrant (Adam Rodriguez) moves into her basement.

E. Lynn Harris Dies
According to Today, author, E. Lynn Harris, has passed away. This was confirmed by his publisher, Doubleday. He was on a book tour on the West Coast when he passed. Harris was 54 years old."We at Doubleday are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of E. Lynn Harris’ death at too young an age," Harris' longtime publicist, Alison Rich, a Doubleday spokeswoman, said on behalf of the publisher. “His pioneering novels and powerful memoir about the black gay experience touched and inspired millions of lives, and he was a gifted storyteller whose books brought delight and encouragement to readers everywhere. Lynn was a warm and generous person, beloved by friends, fans, and booksellers alike, and we mourn his passing."
The Arkansas Times reported on its Web site that Harris was found in his hotel room. His personal assistant confirmed his failing health, according to Essence.com, but didn't provide details about the cause of death.
Harris is best known for his literary work on African American and gay cultures. Some of his work includes, "If This World Were Mine" and "Invisible Life".

Black Doctors: Dr. Ben Carson Gets Featured in a Movie
TNT's "Gifted Hands" is one of those longform projects that has Emmy written all over it.
It boasts near-flawless direction from Thomas Carter, a vivid teleplay adaptation by John Pielmeier and uniformly magnificent performances, particularly from star Cuba Gooding Jr., who puts himself back onto the Hollywood map here in a way he hasn't since his Oscar-winning turn in 1996's "Jerry Maguire."
Gooding portrays the real-life world-renowned brain surgeon Benjamin Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center and author of a best-selling 1990 autobiography.
It's taken nearly two decades to get Carson's inspiring story to the screen, but Gooding does him more than proud with a portrayal at once sensitively wrought and quietly moving.
In lesser hands (if you'll pardon the pun), this biopic could easily have drifted off into maudlin sap, but Gooding keeps the character of Carson centered and human and the film honoring him wise and surprisingly graphic. (The surgical procedures are showcased in all of their bloody glory, but not so much as to cross the line to gratuitousness.)

African American Sports: Judge tosses evidence in Barry Bonds case
A federal judge says she might toss some of the strongest evidence against Barry Bonds, a blow to prosecutors trying to prove the home run king lied when he denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.
U.S. District Judge Susan Illston said her "preliminary thoughts" were to exclude from trial three 2000-2001 positive drug tests that prosecutors say belong to Bonds unless there is a direct link that the urine samples came from the former San Francisco Giants slugger.
"If there's no testimony to establish that, I don't think any of them work," Illston said.
The only person who can do that seems to be Bonds' personal trainer, Greg Anderson, who spent more than a year behind bars for refusing to speak to a federal grand jury investigating Bonds. And Anderson's attorney, Mark Geragos, has said his client will not testify against Bonds at the trial, scheduled to start March 2.
If her preliminary thoughts stand, the government's case against Bonds will suffer a significant blow — but not a fatal one, legal analysts said.
"It hurts, but the government still has quite a bit of other evidence," Golden Gate University law professor Peter Keane said.
That includes a recorded conversation between Anderson and Bonds' former personal assistant Steve Hoskins in which they discuss injecting steroids; a conversation Illston said she's inclined to allow at trial.
Illston will issue a formal decision on the evidence discussed Thursday at a later date. She also will hold a separate hearing on whether to allow testimony from expert doctors the government hopes would persuade a jury that changes in Bonds' body were due to steroid use.

"Housewives of Atlanta" Evicted
Word out there states that NeNe Leakes of the Real Housewives of Atlanta has been evicted from her home. The home where she lived on the show was rented & she owes back-rent of $6400. Some state that Sheree Whitfield, on the show, was also evicted from her home. Hmmmmm..... could this all have been some crazy front?!?!? Goodness, I guess we'll see next season where they are all living now.

Who is the queen of all media? Well, that would be Oprah. But the queen of radio would be Wendy Williams, and the queen of Internet Celebrity Gossip would be Lady Drama. Her work with AllHipHop.com, YourBlackWorld.com and TheSource.com has black people talking all over America.
Lady Drama (AKA Ebony Garris) appeared with Wendy Williams on her new show this week. The Queen of Urban Radio made comments about how fabulous Ebony looked, as Lady Drama is the Queen of online media.
